moon smoothie (spicy turmeric smoothie)
a soothing and refreshing anti-inflammatory smoothie perfect for moon time. spicy with turmeric, sweet with tropical fruits. easily vegan. naturally gluten-free.
  • a half cup yogurt (dairy or otherwise, I'd only recommend it be unflavored)
  • frozen strawberries
  • frozen mango cubes
  • half of a frozen banana (banana haters, skip this and add more¬†strawberries)
  • big ol' knuckle of fresh ginger, peeled
  • almond milk
  • scant ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • a spoonful of honey or maple
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • and basically any other spices that sound warming, comforting, and delicious to you:
  • a sprinkle of cayenne pepper
  • a couple grinds of black pepper
  • a few shakes of cinnamon
  • a pinch of cardamom
  1. put the yogurt, frozen fruit (or fresh fruit + ice cubes) and fresh ginger in the carafe of your blender along with some almond milk. pulse until combined and vaguely smoothie-like. add whatever spices you're using and the honey/maple and blend some more, adding more almond milk as necessary to help your blender smooth out the mixture. sometimes I like keeping my chia seeds intact in smoothies, so I stir them in with a spoon once everything is blended. if you'd rather have them blended with everything else which makes for a thicker consistency, you can throw them in with the fruit + yogurt. taste and add more honey or spices as desired. enjoy.
